Since 1881, Olive Hill has been providing the state of Kentucky with hospitality and activities for everyone. Heading west on I-64, just past the Grayson exit, Olive Hill has many attractions that bring visitors from all across the nation. Around the year people flock to the city to take a hike in the amazing caves located at Carter Caves State Park.



In the early development of this city, residents typically found work on the railroad, as C&O Railroad has a path from Ashland to Lexington that cut through the heart of town. This employment caused the city to grow early and fast. However, in the 1980s, CSX pulled up the railroad and no longer used Olive Hill as a route.



With the position of the city in the Tygart Valley, Olive Hill is subject to flash flooding and frigid temperatures as the seasons change. During the summer months, heavy rains can cause flash flooding due to the runoff going into the valley where they city sits. Then as summer ends and winter settles in, the valley hold frigid temperatures longer causing many residents to experience burst pipes, leading to significant water damage.
